Young people are active community members and are engaged in the events and issues impacting Australia. Since November 2022, the Youth Steering Committee has worked with the Australian government to design and deliver nationwide consultations to inform the strategy. This strategy identifies what is needed when it comes to how government works and engages with young people.

This strategy will make possible an ongoing, genuine partnership between young people and the government. As a whole-of-government strategy, it aims to ensure that every government department and agency can respond to the needs of young people from across the country. Additionally, this strategy will push for clear and consistent communication between young people and the government on the issues most important to young people.
